Empty Bowls For Amos House

A young supporter at Empty BowlsSee if you were a Chance Raffle winner!

Thank you ¡CityArts!  for hosting the second annual Empty Bowls benefit for Amos House on Tuesday, January 17th at our Dining Hall. Supporters of  ¡CityArts! and Amos House chose a beautiful handmade ceramic bowl and enjoyed a community supper of delicious homemade soup and bread. ACE students DJ and John manned the kitchen, and DJ spoke to the group about his experience in the culinary program and his success at finding a job. Supporters also took part in a Chance Raffle and the evening was capped off with a performance by Moses Brown's Versatones. At the end of the night diners brought their handmade soup bowl home with them as a reminder of their contribution to the fight against hunger. (Check out RI Monthly's Video of the event!)

Through Empty Bowls  ¡CityArts! raised enough money to sponsor 1000 meals for hungry men, women and children. During “Make Your Mark Week," roughly 30 Clay Studio students at CityArts (ages 8-14) dedicated their afterschool hours to the project. They also hosted a special bowl-making workshop for families in November. In all, the group created more than a 100 beautiful bowls. Ellen Huie, artists from RIC and potter Rena Bidney also contributed handmade works.
