Amos House Launches Leadership Council
Adrian Bussone, a young professional who recently moved to Providence, is eager to make new friends and experience “community.” Stephanie Zurek, a 27-year-old architectural designer, wants to serve the urban community through her time and talent. They and other young adults have found a new way to network and “give back” - The Amos House Leadership Council.
Launched in February, the Leadership Council brings together socially conscience young adults to support Amos House financially and socially. Its members are planning monthly activities that appeal to their interests and talents, and will enrich the Amos House community.
Adrian wants to help residents at our women’s shelter plant a garden and learn to make jewelry. "I’ve always wanted to be involved in helping people who are homeless or dealing with substance abuse,” said the 23-year-old designer at Ximedica, a design firm specializing in consumer healthcare and medical devices. “It’s an issue that’s occurred in my family and this is my way of giving back.”
Stephanie is helping Amos House with the launch of our new Friendship Café. The architectural designer at Donald Power Architects, Inc. enlisted the support of her employer to plan the layout of the restaurant, from seating and counter space to colors and furniture. “What’s most exciting is working on a restaurant space and designing it to appeal to a neigborhood,” Stephanie shared.
Mark Guarraia, another Council member, is assisting her with the café’s look. The Ximedica industrial designer also created the visuals for the café’s Buy-A-Brick Campaign. “I was really humbled seeing all of the ways Amos House helps the Greater Providence community and was compelled to get involved,” said Mark, 25. “I have found myself surrounded by an overwhelming sense of happiness, community and appreciation when visiting Amos House.”
