Blue Angel Community Health Grant Recipient
We are excited to announce that Amos House has been selected by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island as a recipient of a Blue Angel Community Health Grant.
We want to thank BCBSRI and share with you the details of how this grant will help us to expand the work that we do for individuals and families in need in our communities. Each year, our 90-day residential program serves over 200 men and women who are homeless and struggle with addiction and other mental health issues. Through the BCBS Blue Angel Grant, we will have psychiatric services on-site at Amos House. We will provide psychiatric assessments, medication evaluation and management and ongoing psychiatric support. Over 90% of the people who come to Amos House are without insurance, but are in need of vital medical and mental health care. With this grant, not only will Amos House be able to provide on-site mental health services, but we will also be able to help pay for prescriptions for those needing medication.
Without addressing both addiction and underlying mental illness, the probability of moving people from homelessness to self-sufficiency is minimal. Cost of emergency rooms by the chronically homeless is prohibitive. By providing these vital services, Amos House can cut down on the cost of emergency room visits and vastly improve the success rates for those struggling with a range of mental health challenges. Rhode Island is fortunate to have Blue Cross Blue Shield in our state, reaching out to help not only those who are enrolled in their programs, but also extending their impact to the most needy in our state, the uninsured struggling with poverty, mental illness and homelessness.
Together, Amos House and BCBS of Rhode Island are making a difference. Contact us today to find out how you can help us continue to do the great work of changing lives, building strong individuals and families, and improving our Rhode Island communities.
