Cub Scouts Raise Hundreds for Amos House
Forty cub scouts from Frenchtown Pack 4 in East Greenwich recently visited Amos House to present a check for $600, tour our campus and dine at our soup kitchen. Pack members raised the funds as part of a project to serve the community, generate income for their pack, and learn about fundraising.
“We were talking about doing something a little different from the ordinary where the scouts could raise money for the pack and be good to the community,” said Alex Kaufman, a pack parent volunteer. “Amos House came up in the conversation when we thought about who’s out in the community doing things.”
Together the boys, ranging from 7 to 11 years old, knocked on doors in their community and asked neighbors for donations for their pack and Amos House. They also designed a picture with several people eating soup at a table on a cold wintery day. Each donor received a copy of the picture as a token of thanks.
“The project was a lesson in fundraising, civil discourse and manners,” Kaufman explained. “The boys were very enthusiastic.”
Members of Frenchtown Pack 4 look forward to future community projects through which they can learn and help others.
