Amos Culinary Education Program
ACE Culinary Training Program
Preparing for a better life
Amos House began the Amos Culinary Education Program (ACE) in 2002. We wanted to address the high unemployment rate of the men and women living in our shelter programs and because we had been operating a soup kitchen for over 25 years, we believed that it was a natural extension of our mission. We also recognized that individuals with barriers to employment such as criminal records and addiction could find jobs in the food service industry.
The program has graduated over 450 students since we began over ten years ago. The students receive hands-on training in our Friendship Café and More Than a Meal Catering business and other internship sites such as RISD and Blount Fine Foods. In addition they receive instruction that prepares them to pass the National Serve Safe Exam as well as training in customer service and hospitality. We are proud of the fact that we have helped over 300 people find jobs in the hospitality industry and because of our experience with ACE, launched our own businesses where we can provide direct employment to those in need.
